IB
Theatre Arts & Psychology Option
The
IB Theatre Arts & Psychology option is new at Champlain St-Lambert.
It is designed to offer you a dynamic and flexible approach to
theatre as a composite art and to allow you to come to certain
insights about both the human mind and the human condition as
they play themselves out on the stage of daily life. This option
will give you a global exposure to the theatre arts, encourage
and nurture your individual creative process, and teach you how
to study life. The IB Theatre Arts & Psychology option will prepare
you for admission to most Bachelor of Arts programs, including
Communications, Performing Arts (Theatre), and Psychology.
During
the course of Theatre Arts curriculum, you will learn about
the processes of theatrical production - from page to stage. As
such, you will be introduced to play writing, direction, choreography,
musical direction, stage management, administration, and promotion.
You will also learn acting techniques and develop at least one
of the following technical skills: set, light, costume, sound,
music, make-up design, or construction.
In
addition to developing practical skills, you will gain knowledge
of the major developments and techniques in the theatrical history
of more than one culture, learn to interpret play scripts analytically
and imaginatively, and develop research skills. You will also
have the opportunity to practice being a theatre critic of live
performances which IB Theatre Arts & Psychology students will
attend as a group.
The Psychology curriculum will provide you with a way to
view the world. Everyday, we look to Psychology to shed some light
on the various phenomena that surround us, from business practices
to historical events. In this IB option, you will learn how to
view events and behaviour from a different perspective, and about
the relationship between Psychology and the other disciplines.
At
the heart of the IB Theatre Arts & Psychology option is a sense
of le jeu, the art of imaginative play as it extends our knowledge
of ourselves and the society in which we live or view through
this ancient art. If you want to understand what's being said
and want to be able to say something yourself, then the IB Theatre
Arts & Psychology option at Champlain St-Lambert is where you'll
want to be.
