The Labs

We Do Windows…and Macs!

Because our program teaches students skills specific to the platforms they will be working on in the business world, we have two main computer labs for PDM students. One lab is equipped with 25 state-of-the-art Pentium III computers and is used primarily for learning Microsoft Office, HTML, and management skills. This lab also features the latest versions of QuarkXPress for Windows, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia Dreamweaver. All the computers in this lab are networked and have Internet access.

The other lab features 600mHz iMacs with CDRW and Zip drives. Classes use this lab for page layout and design as well as multimedia and web page development. The software installed in this lab includes the latest versions of QuarkXPress, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Macromedia Director, Microsoft Word 2001, iTunes and iMovie.

Both labs have laser printers, scanners and colour printers reserved exclusively for PDM students.

Third year students also have access to the PDM Business Centre, which is a special office set up for students to work with people outside the college on design projects. This office features a high-end PC workstation and a high-end Macintosh G4 tower with all the bells and whistles.

Practice Labs

PDM students are permitted to use both the Macintosh and Windows labs to practice their software skills or to do homework when these labs are not in use. Also, PDM students have access to all the software used in the program, as well as scanners and printers, installed on the iMacs and PCs in the C-Tec practice lab, room C-102. Additionally, students working on Photoshop can use the iMacs hooked up to scanners in E-246.
