Internet Information Systems Developer

OBJECTIVE:
The objectives of this program are to:

  • Provide students with specific, specialized technical skills in the areas of computer programming and database analysis and design.
  • Develop problem-solving skills including logic, analysis and synthesis
  • Foster the development of communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others through group projects.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:
The goal of this program is prepare students for employment in positions such as computer programmer and database developer. To increase the opportunities for employment, a major goal of the program will be to prepare students to complete the Microsoft Certified Solution Developer certification.

Microsoft states that, "The Microsoft® Certified Solution Developer (MCSD) credential is the premier certification for professionals who design and develop leading-edge business solutions with Microsoft development tools, technologies, platforms, and the Microsoft Windows® DNA architecture. The types of applications MCSDs are able to develop include desktop applications and multi-user, Web-based, N-tier, and transaction-based applications. The credential covers job tasks ranging from analyzing business requirements to maintaining solutions.

The MCSD track includes certification exams that test the candidate's ability to build Web-based, distributed, and commerce solutions by using Microsoft's application server and other products, such as Microsoft SQL Server™"

ADMISSIONS CONDITIONS:

  • Must possess a Secondary V certificate or equivalent; including Math 536 or equivalent
  • Prospective candidates will be asked to submit a curriculum vitae and will be interviewed prior to admission to the program to verify their qualifications
  • Previous knowledge of computers
  • Students must possess a mastery of English to deal with the course materials. Prospective candidates will be interviewed prior to admission to the program
  • Bilingualism is a major asset

ATTESTATION CRITERIA:

You are eligible to register in an Attestation of Collegial Studies program if you are a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident, and if:

  • You have received instruction deemed acceptable by the college, for example:
    A Diploma of High School Studies or a College Diploma or a University Degree
    OR
    A partial high school program, coupled with a recommendation from a current or former employer that you would benefit from pursuing your education at the post-secondary level.
    AND
  • You meet one of the following three conditions:
    - You have not been a full-time student (either in high school or college) for at least two consecutive terms or one school year within the last 12 months.
    - You are part of an agreement between the college and an employer, or you are sponsored within the terms of a government program (Emploi-Québec ).
    - You have completed at least one year of post-secondary studies spread over a period of one year or more.
