NEIL O’SULLIVAN (Sir Sandford Fleming College - Peterborouogh)
Playing from the guard or forward position, Neil led the Knights in scoring for the third consecutive year. He became the all-time leading scorer in the team’s history and the only Fleming player to reach 1000 points in his career. His average this year of 19.4 points per game was a significant contribution to the development of the Knights as the top offensive team in Ontario and their rise to a first place finish in Ontario East and a top ten CCAA ranking for the first time in the history of Fleming basketball. Despite his impressive offensive statistics, Neil is a very unselfish player and sacrifices personal statistics opportunities for the benefit of the team.

ANTHONY MOORE (John Abbott College)
Anthony’s league leading average of 22 points per game led the Islanders to the top of the Quebec conference with an average of 81.4 points per game. He ranked first in free throws made, seconds in field goals and hit 37 three point shots. While leading the team in scoring in more than half of the league games, he also chipped in an average of 6.1 rebounds per game. Named to Quebec’s first all-star team in 2007-08, his success this year followed an impressive performance in last year’s nationals. Anthony was named to the 2nd all-star team and helped the Islanders to a bronze medal finish.

BRENDON ARNOLD (Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics)
A fourth year post player, Brendon averaged 12 points per game along with five rebounds. His contribution on defence led the Mystics to the number one defensive ranking nationally. An honours student and an academic all-Canadian, Brendon will be graduating with a degree in public relations.

JEFF SPOOR (Camosun College)
Playing from the point guard position and leading the Chargers to an 11 and 5 record and a bronze medal at the provincial championships in B.C., Jeff averaged 16.5 points game with a single game season high of 32 points. He also contributed 3.6 rebounds and 6.4 assists. Jeff was selected as first-team all-star in B.C. and is in his second year of the Civil Engineering program at Camosun.

ANTHONY BATCHELOR (Durham College)
Selected as Ontario’s player of the year, Anthony’s team leading average of 20 points per game ranked fourth in the league. He became the all-time leading scorer in the OCAA breaking a 22 year old record with a career total of 1524 points. Along the way he established the OCCA record for a single game with 58 points. For the fourth consecutive year he was named to the league’s first all-star team and he has also been a team captain for all of those years. A very durable player, he averaged 38 minutes per game. Off the court Anthony has made an important contribution to his community as a volunteer in the “School is Cool” elementary tours program.

EMMANUEL CHIEK (Mount Royal College)
A 6’6 forward Emmanuel makes an impressive contribution at both ends of the court. He averaged 11.3 points per game along with 7 rebounds. Named as a member of the first all-star team, he helped carry the Cougars to 17-3 league record and a first place finish. Emmanuel also contributes to the basketball community by participating in the Cougars on the Courts program in which the student athletes assist local school with their practices.

CCAA Player of the Year • ACSC Joueur de l'année
BILLY MCNUTT
(Douglas College)
A fourth year forward, Billy was named a first team all-star and British Columbia’s player of the year. His 19 points per game average placed him fourth in the league and included a game high 41 points. He averaged 9.5 rebounds per game on the way to 16 double doubles in 16 league games. His contribution helped the Royals to a perfect 16-0 league record and 24-1 in overall CCAA competition. His success this year follows a standout performance at last year’s nationals when he was selected to the first all-star team and led the championship in points , rebounds and blocked shots.

KYLE DESMARAIS (Dawson College)
Kyle is a third year shooting guard and captain of the Blues. Playing 34 minutes a game he has averaged 20 points per game, 3 steals, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. He was named the CCAA Quebec player of the month in February, a first team FQSE all-star and the Quebec Conference most valuable player. His contribution helped the Blues to a first place finish with a league record of 14-2. Off the court he is a volunteer in the Marianopolis Basketball House League.

ADAM JONES (Grande Prairie Regional College)
Adam has been the strength of the Wolves throughout his four year career in the guard position. Four times he has been the leading scorer and the team’s MVP and is finishing his third year as captain. This year he is ranked 2nd in the league in scoring with an 18 points per game average, 2nd in 3 point shots made, and third in free throw percentage at 82.1. He played a valuable role in leading the Wolves to a playoff position. Adam has also made an important contribution to the team’s involvement in the community in instructional camps, classrooms visits and coaching in the Wolves’ club system,

DAMIAN GAY (Mount Saint Vincent University)
Playing from the post position Damian was a major contributor to the Mount’s second consecutive undefeated season. He displayed outstanding shooting accuracy hitting 55% from the floor and averaging 14.2 points per game. Tough on defence he led the team in drawing offensive charges and added 6 rebounds per game. Considered to be the number BIG MAN in the Atlantic Colleges conference, Damian was named CCAA athlete of the month for his conference.

GORD THATCHER (Camosun College)
A long time coach with the Camosun Chargers, Gord guided the team to an 11-5 record during the 2007-08 season and a bronze medal at the British Columbia Athletic Association provincial playoffs. Gord is well respected within the college basketball world for his ability to develop the playing skills of his players as well as his contribution to their personal development. He has played a role with Canada Basketball, Basketball BC and at the local level as well with the development of summer camps and other basketball activities. He has also continued with his own personal development as a participant in the NCI level 4 program.

WAYNE YEARWOOD (Dawson College)
Under the direction of Wayne, the Dawson Blues finished the regular season in first place in the Quebec Conference with a record of 14-2 in 2007-08. This strong season followed a gold medal at the CCAA national championships in 2006-07. Wayne is an assistant coach with the men’s national team and has also contributed at the community level assisting with a local house league as well as offering clinics to youth in the Montreal area.

PHIL ALLEN (Lakeland College)
Among the most successful coaches in the history of the CCAA, Phil Allen has accumulated a total of 803 victories as a CCAA coach. Teams coached by Phil have made several appearances in the national championships with considerable success. Recently he has encouraged some talented players to come to Vermilion , Alberta and has molded them into a contender for the national championship. The Rustlers finished the season with a record of 21 and 3 and captured the silver medal at Alberta’s provincial championships. Phil is a certified level 3 coach and is qualified as well as a coaching instructor. These skills have also been used to advantage in the community where Phil has established clinics for younger basketball players.

BILL CROWDIS (Sir Sandford Fleming - Peterborough)
Following a complete rebuilding of the team in mid-2006-07, the Fleming Knights climbed from the bottom of the Ontario East Conference to a first place finish in 2007-08. The road to the 15-5 record also carried the team to a top ten CCAA ranking for the first time in the college’s history. The offensive plan put in place by Coach Crowdis converted the Knights from one of the weakest programs in Ontario to the number 1 offensive team in 2007-08. His impact upon the program also reaches into the local community where the team participates in fundraising activities for charity and Bill directs summer youth camps and offers clinics for elementary and high school teams.

CCAA Coach of the Year • ACSC entraîneur de l'année
RICK PLATO
(Mount Saint Vincent University)
Rick has just completed his 19th year as head coach of the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics. His impact on basketball in the ACAA has been acknowledged by his peers as he has been selected coach of the year in that conference nine times. Over the last few years he has guided the Mystics to considerable success including a perfect record in the ACAA over the last two seasons. . In 2007-08 the team achieved the highest ever ranking for an ACAA team, rising to second place early in the year and carrying through to the end of the season. Rick has played an important role in the community as a mentor to local high school and club coaches, and, among many other contributions he has conducted clinics for Basketball Nova Scotia. High school and post secondary players benefit from the spring and summer basketball which he organizes.
