College News

Shave to Save Hits Champlain! The CSA and the Activities Committee would like to thank everyone who participated and contributed to last Tuesday’s event. We shaved a total of 11 heads (8 students and 3 staff) and raised 1087.50$ in those few hours in the Cafeteria. Altogether, we estimate that we will donate over $2700 to breast cancer research from this drive! Congratulations to Sam MacNab for being the first to be shaved by Mix96 and to Adam Wyatt, Gen Vachon, Yassin Merebet, Jaclyn Vanderzon, Jordan Turcotte, Ameilie Cardin-Boulian and Svertoslav Gerasimov. Also thanks to staff members Daniele St-Jacques (who raised over 200$ that day) and to Vince Amato and Ray Corbeil who are now follicle challenged. No, we are not related to Dean Howie! Would everyone who got shaved join us at 12:10 PM on Wednesday, October 25 in front of Student Services for a group picture. Well done, Champlain!

CBC / Radio Canada:
CBC / Radio Canada will be here on campus for their live evening news broadcast on Wednesday, October 25th from 6:00 - 6:30 PM. Everyone is invited to watch and be an integral part of this once in a lifetime experience which will take place in the Solarium in the Cafeteria. See you there!

DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR PROGRAM?
See an advisor! It’s easy to make an appointment with Ann or Kevin. Just come to the counter in the Registrar’s Office, room F-103.

Midterm are now available on the Champlain College Saint-Lambert website: Students are able to view their assessments in their personal account under My Classes. If you have questions or need help to open your web account at Champlain Saint-Lambert, come see us in the Registrar’s Office F-103.

ADDRESS CHANGE: Students can now request a change of address, telephone number and/or E-mail address online. Log on to myChamplain Info Centre on the College’s website and make the changes!

Medicine Meeting: Students interested in Medicine should be sure to attend an information session given by former Champlain students who are now studying Medicine. Want to know what the admissions process is like from a student’s point of view? What are the secrets of writing a good letter and doing a good interview? What is it like once you’re in Medicine? First and second year students are welcome. The meeting will take place in A-117 on November 1st at 12:15 PM.

McGill Medicine:
The annual information session for students interested in Medicine at McGill will be held at McGill on Tuesday, November 14th, at 6:30 PM in the R. Palmer Howard Amphitheatre, on the 6th floor of the McIntyre Medical Sciences Building. It is very important for prospective medical students to attend this free session which will be given by the Director of Admissions for Medicine at McGill, assisted by some current medical students. Parents and friends are also welcome to attend. Please use the 1200 av. des Pins ouest (Pine W.) entrance. Students who would prefer to attend a session in French can go at the same time to the same location on Tuesday, October 17th.

Considering Teaching Abroad? Many companies recruit ESL teachers – some companies are legitimate and reputable, and some companies are NOT. Do your research. If the offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is. The company should care about the quality of education they provide to their students, and as such, they should require teachers to have either TEFL or TESOL qualifications. If they do not require this – be suspicious. Any legitimate teacher recruiting company will be licensed to hire foreign professionals. If they are not – do not consider signing a contract with them. Be weary of the terms “schools” and “universities” – these terms are used very loosely, along with impressive pamphlets and web-sites to build an image of legitimacy. Before signing any contract, spend a lot of time researching the company and reviewing the contract with a lawyer.

It's Just Mean To Be Unclean!

Our parking lot, locker areas and cafeterias have never been as littered as they are this year, and our dedicated cleaning staff members are overwhelmed in an attempt to keep up. Please, be a responsible member of this community and add “throw garbage in a garbage can” to you daily act-of-kindness to-do list.

Bandring Cleanliness:
“Take out the garbage and the trash, or you won’t get no spending cash.” Those are the lyrics of a popular 50’s song. Sha-Na-Na and I hope that you will make the effort to place your trash in the garbage cans and keep the Bandring clean. It requires cooperation on everyone’s part to keep a building of this size clean. It’s your environment! Respect it by throwing your trash in the proper places and not on the floor.
