Student Support Services available at Champlain

There are a variety of services that we provide to enhance your college studies. We know from experience that the successful college student is the one who makes use of these services. We strongly encourage students to explore how they can help themselves while you are at Champlain St-Lambert and that you do so early in the first semester.

Academic Advising
If you’re not sure about which courses you should register for next semester, the requirements of a university program you are interested in, whether you should change your present program, or simply want to discuss your academic standing, Champlain St-Lambert’s Academic Advisors are there to help you. To set an appointment with an Academic Advisor, go to room F-103.

Counselling
If you find that you are lacking motivation, get very nervous before exams or class presentations, need help deciding on a career, are having problems at home, are lonely, depressed, stressed out or just having some trouble adapting to cegep life, Champlain St-Lambert’s counsellors are experienced professionals committed to helping you find solutions that work for you. If you want to meet with a counsellor, go to the Student Services office in Room F-121 to set an appointment.

Learning Centre
Our Learning Centre has been set up to help students who want to learn how to become more effective learners, no matter what they are studying. You can stop by any time to borrow a book or pick up a handout if you want tips on how to study more efficiently, write term papers, manage your time better, etc. You can also request the help of a tutor if you are having difficulty in a specific course. The Learning Centre is located on the second floor of the Library.

Library and Resource Centre
The Resource Centre carries a growing collection of over 70,000 books and a good cross-section of magazines, newspapers and government publications, as well as holdings of microfilms, microfiche, videotapes, slides, audiotapes and compact disks. In addition, we have CD-ROM workstations, which give you access to current newspapers and periodicals. You can use the Resource Centre for individual or group study, to research your assignments, or to browse through the many popular paperbacks or books you might want to read just for fun. The Library and Resource Centre are located on the second floor in the F-Wing.

Educational Media Centre
The Educational Media Centre (EMC) has a wide range of computer and audio-visual facilities and equipment for you to use. The facilities include a professional TV studio, film and video editing suites, and sound studios. In addition, the EMC has Macintosh and IBM computer labs, which you can use to type your term papers or to access the Internet. Each semester workshops and seminars are organized to teach you how to use these facilities as well as word-processing, desktop publishing and navigating the Internet. The EMC is located in Room E-241.
