GOVERNMENT
LOANS AND BURSARIES:
Who is
Eligible?
All
full-time students who are Canadian citizens and residents of Quebec. Depending
on entry classification, landed immigrants may also be eligible.
What
is Expected of Students?
Students must make a financial contribution to their studies. This contribution
is based upon the number of weeks available to work at minimum wage level during
the summer preceding the start of classes.
What
is Expected of Parents?
The contribution of the parent, if the student is classified as "dependent",
is calculated by taking into account total family income minus authorized deductions.
A mathematical formula then determines the portion of the family resources that
should be allocated to paying the student's studies. Special consideration is
given to low income households and to families on welfare.
What
Does the Government Give?
When student and parent contributions are not considered adequate, the government
provides assistance in the form of a non-interest bearing loan and, if this
is not enough, then a bursary.
Application
Deadline
The student must apply no later than June 30th, in order to ensure that financial
aid will be able to the student by start of classes. Those applying for second
semester have January 31 each year as their deadline.
NOTE: Students may apply after the June 30th and January 31st deadline. One
can apply up to March 31st of the year in progress - NO applications will
be processed after March 31st.
NOTE:
Even if you have not received acceptance from an educational institution,
you can still apply for financial assistance.
NOTE: It takes 6 - 8 weeks for the application to be processed, so students
should plan accordingly when needing financial assistance.

BURSARIES
FOR DISABLED STUDENTS:
Seriously
disabled students may be eligible for financial aid to cover transportation
and subsistance costs. Aid is also provided to cover book costs and the purchase
of special learning aids. If independence is not recognized, the family income
is taken into account when calculating the size of the bursary. Application
deadlines are the same as for Loans and Bursaries.

details and application forms for the above mentioned financial assistance
programs can be obtained by contacting Ray Corbeil in Student Services (Room
